Earlier in the week, my mom gave me a stack of recipes that were my grandmas. I was doing some food prep yesterday and thought I would pull one out of the stack and give it a try. I chose an applesauce bundt cake with an applesauce glaze.
I worked until 6:30 last night and dinner was still in the oven. I knew I wanted to try a piece of that cake so I had it for dinner. YES! We're all adults and we get to pick what we want to eat. If you want cake for dinner, you can have it and still lose weight. It doesn't mean we get to eat everything we want whenever we want it.
I had lost 2.8 of the 3 lbs. I gained last week. I weigh on Fridays and knew a piece of cake could make the scale go up. It did go up--1.2 lbs. I could think that eating that piece of cake means I blew my weigh in or that I can never have foods I like and lose weight. I could even tell myself how bad I was for eating cake. Instead, I choose to not have drama about one piece of cake. I moved on and planned my food for today.
The Lesson: Eating that piece of cake gave me evidence for what I've been suspecting for a while. TOO MUCH sugar and flour doesn't make my body feel great the next day. I could feel the water retention in my legs when I got up this morning. My joints don't feel great when I overeat sugar. That doesn't mean you or I can never have these foods. It DOES mean we get to choose when we have them and how much.
It IS possible to eat foods we enjoy AND lose weight. If you have a food you love and still want to eat it, decide on purpose when you will have it. OR see if you can make a version of that food that tastes good and makes you feel good.
